Primary Locksets

Secondary Locksets

A STARTING POINT

Door products claiming to be anti-ligature are now available from a number of sources however the majority of these are based on existing ironmongery that has been modified. This balancing act between the ironmongery’s original function and the new capability it is being forced to provide can produce a compromised result. At Primera we don’t believe in compromise and so all our door products have been designed from scratch to provide the anti-ligature function that is required. We are specialists and as such only design and manufacture anti-ligature products.

NO LEVER OR KNOB HANDLES

The requirement for handles to provide a lever action to operate a latch will always, to greater or lesser extent, create a ligature point. Replacing lever handles with knobs to avoid this problem creates issues of grip for the user, which is the main reason that levers are preferred over knobs in everyday situations. The Primera solution is to eliminate the need for levers or knobs altogether. By replacing the latch bolt with a sprung rollerbolt that operates purely on the push/pull action of the door, the need for levers and knobs is removed. This is the basis for all of our rollerbolt deadlock locksets.

NO INTERNAL FIXINGS

The only internal component of a Primera lockset is our unique Turnpull. It provides the service user with intuitive operation of the rollerbolt deadbolt or the deadlatch, depending on lockset selection, and is secured on the door by being bolted through from the external face. This allows no opportunity for the service user to attempt to remove the Turnpull whilst in the privacy of their room.

ANTI-LIGATURE DESIGN

All Primera door products are tested for ligature resistance to DHF TS001, the only benchmark recognised by the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers, and, with the exception to the 730 ‘Elephants Trunk’ handle which can’t pass by nature of its design, they have all passed at the highest level, Level 4. We are therefore confident that our products are at the forefront of anti-ligature design.

ANTI-BARRICADE FACILITY

Barricade situations arise where persons can secure themselves in a room (with or without hostages) and are perceived to present a threat either to themselves or others. Creating a barricade situation typically involves holding, forcing or jamming the internal thumb-turn to prevent the operation of the Staff key. All Primera Turnpull lock-sets are designed with an integral Primary Barricade override facility. This unique mechanism is designed to ensure that the Staff key dominates the Turnpull at all times. We also, uniquely, offer a Secondary Barricade override facility to bypass the cylinder should it fail for whatever reason. Full details of these features are given on the following pages.
